Monday, September 17th, 2018 A terrific day in Grade 3/4! I have been very happy and excited getting to know your child. I have sent home a note regarding signing up for the CLASS DOJO. There was a technical problem with the program, thus NEW sign outs will come tomorrow if you were unable to sign up. Sorry for the inconvenience. Dear Families,

Welcome to Grade 3/4 at Monsignor Lee Catholic School. My name is Mrs. Lorelei Jenkins and I am your child’s teacher for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year.

This will be my 20th year teaching, 6 of them at Monsignor Lee.  I have previously taught grades JK/SK, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. Some hobbies that I enjoy are playing soccer, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

Educating a child is most successful when families and schools work together in the best interest of the child. Valuing education and the opportunities it provides are important first steps in a lifelong path of success. I am hopeful that you will find time to participate in some of our school activities.

This can be done through a note via the agenda or by calling the school at 705- 326- 3601.

Please encourage your child to share their agenda with you every night. Agendas are $5.00.   Permission forms, classroom work, reading programs and other papers will be sent home regularly. I will check agendas as quickly as I can in the morning. Your child is in Grade 3 or 4 and is expected to let me know if there is a money or a note from home in the agenda. I will ask if anyone has anything for me but I will not be going through school bags looking for information from home.

Monsignor Lee Catholic School strives to be a Nut-Free school - Please do not send any peanut or nut products, sesame seeds and pineapple in lunches or snacks.

Food orders will begin in October. NO paper copies of forms will be sent home. Check the school webpage under ONLINE BACKPACK to print out the necessary form.

When sending money to school with your child, please send it in a ziplock bag with a brief note identifying what the money is for and how much is included. Please send exact change as I can’t make change. This will us help us track the money you send in and eliminate any confusion. Thanks in advance!

We recommend that your child reads (or read to) every night for a minimum of 15 minutes. Grab a book and read it together on the couch or before bed.  Spending quality time with your child promoting literacy and oral communication will help your child develop as a learner. The Primary grades participate in a Read On program. Please refer to the Reading Folder for more information. Occasionally you will see other assignments come home but daily reading is your child’s homework.  If your child has not been using class time efficiently to complete classroom work, they will be asked to take it home to complete. Thank you for supporting your child in completing this work.

Class Supplies: Students are only required to bring in indoor running shoes.  School supplies that are encouraged are: pencil crayons or crayons, pencils, small sharpener, ruler and a glue stick.    If families can spare a box of tissue and paper towel that would be fantastic. We are also asking families to send in a pair of earbuds in a Ziploc bag for your own child’s use when using our electronic equipment.

Our “Welcome to Monsignor Lee” School BBQ will be Thursday, September 20th beginning at 4:30pm. I look forward to meeting all of you.

Our first school Catholic School Community Council (Parent Council) is Monday, September 17th at 5:30 pm in the library.  ALL parents are welcome to come out and see what parent council is all about.  Our parent council appreciates any help you can offer.

Thank you for taking the time reading this newsletter. I look forward to working with you to ensure your child has a positive and enjoyable school year.  If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school or write me a quick note in your child’s agenda.

Wishing you the best school year,

Mrs. Lorelei Jenkins
