Homework: Fill in the graphic organizer for your KIDS essay. Below are examples of a thesis statement.
A thesis statement begins an essay with clear direction. It introduces your topic, narrows your topic to a specific claim, and names the points of support (usually three) that you will develop in your essay. The formula for a thesis statement is topic + claim + supporting points
The three basic needs of human beings are: food, clothing, and shelter.
My grandma lives far away but keeps in touch by sending me letters and emails, calling on the phone, and visiting once a year.
My aunt has suffered from anxietyand depression her whole life and has learned to deal with it byexercising, using appropriate medication and developing herspirituality.

Iwould like to officially welcome you and your child to Grade 6. I havebeen given the privilege to get to know your child and to share intheir learning experiences this year. I look forward to guiding yourchild to become a comfortable member of our christian community.
Generallyclassroom communication will be found on the classroom website. Logonto the school website and under ‘For Students’ you will find ‘Mrs.Duggan’s Website’. There information will be posted for both you andyour child.
Newthis year, I will be sending graded papers home on Friday in a folder. This way you can keep track of your child’s progress. The folders mustbe returned on Monday with SIGNED papers.
Generally speaking, I don’t believe in alot of homework. After school, students tend to be tired, participatein extra curricular activities and many times homework can be stressful(I know, I have two children in the school)! That being said, ‘some’homework is an easy way to promote responsibility and to practice timemanagement skills. It also gives parents insight into what is takingplace in the classroom.
Weekly homework this year will be:
10 minutes of nightly reading and one reading response letter/week (a small notebook will be provided for this)
weekly math problem given on Monday and due Thursday (a small notebook will be provided for this)
Inaddition to weekly homework, students will bring home unfinished work. Students may also be asked to prepare for upcoming projects which mightinclude collecting items, information or research. Homework will notbe graded formally but used as assessment of work habits and is practicefor formal tests.
*Tests: Students will be given a minimum of 3 work days notice before any formal tests are given.
*Quiz: Students may not be given any notice before a quiz. Quiz’s are used as information for the student and teacher.
Supplies students will need:
*calculator (does NOT have to be scientific)
*one box of kleenex (per term)
*one roll of paper towel (per term)
*indoor shoes (running shoes)
*water bottle for desk
*small change purse/container for school money (pizza, milk, agenda extra)
LABEL EVERYTHING (as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items, if it is VALUABLE to you, don’t bring it to school).
Tomorrow, students will receive the classroom rules and behaviour plan. Thisweek many notes will be coming home so stay tuned! I look forward toanother awesome year at Monsignor Lee School!
